Acne Routine
6 steps to a flawless face
85% of all teenagers have acne, but they don't have to! When someone enters puberty, an increase in the androgen hormone spikes. The excess hormones cause your oil glands to go into overdrive. With all that extra oil trapping dead skin cells in the pores, this creates a perfect environment for bacteria to grow, thus resulting in those not-so-lovely and often painful outbreaks and confidence destroying pimples + blackheads. Don't worry, we're here for you and have a solution that can clear up acne in no time!
Enjoy a clear, velvety soft, glowing complexion without parabens, sulfates, chemicals, or dyes required—just clean ingredients good for your skin.
Step 1. Steam with Steam Me – Start by steaming to loosen up any grime hiding deep down in those pores. Bring 2 quarts of water to a strong boil in a large pot. Toss in a handful of Steam Me herbal mixture, cover, and let simmer for 2 minutes. Our oily skin blend with soothing calendula and cleansing witch hazel works perfectly and gently with your skin.
Remove pot from heat and move it to a spot where you can sit comfortably for up to 15 minutes. Drape a large towel over both your head and the pot to capture the steaming herbal water. (If you get too warm, it's okay to peek out from your towel for a shot of fresh air.)
Step 2. Exfoliate with Montana Mud Scrub – A great replacement for soap, Montana Mud Scrub gently buffs away impurities, dead skin cells, oil and dirt while detoxing your skin. Made with Montana Bentonite clay and botanicals to nourish + cleanse your skin leaving it smooth and soothed.
Mix Mud Scrub with enough honey and water to make a thick paste. Rinse face with warm water then massage in Mud Scrub. Rinse clean with warm water. Pat skin dry.
Step 3. Deep clean with Dark Matter detoxifying mask – Eliminate blackheads + tighten pores + hydrate with Dark Matter. Our coconut charcoal-based mask cleans deeply without leaving a residue, allowing the skin to breathe freely. You can also use this as a spot treatment if a pimple pops up. We suggest applying this mask 2-3 times a week for the first two weeks or until you notice a difference in your outbreaks.
Mix 1 heaping teaspoon Dark Matter with our Earth Tone until you get a gooey consistency. Apply a thin layer to your entire face, or use it to spot treat acne or under-eye bags. When the Dark Matter turns gray, rinse your face. (Don’t worry if some Dark Matter remains. Oil Change cleanser will remove the rest.)
Step 4. Cleanse and hydrate with Oil Change – Dissolve away any remaining dirt, oil, and impurities with Oil Change. Instead of harsh chemicals, suds, or alcohol (which strip skin of its own necessary oil), Oil Change uses botanical oils packed with essential fatty acids and antioxidant pro-vitamins for a thoroughly clean and luxuriously soft result. This might come as a shock, but not all oils are created equal. The oils that we have formulated into Oil Change do NOT clog your pores! The chamomile infusion helps soothe outbreaks and the essential oils act as a bacteria shield.
Massage a quarter-size amount of Oil Change onto your face for 2 minutes. Let it work for 5-10 minutes, then wipe off using a cloth and hot water.
Step 5. Balance with Earth Tone – Balance pH + fight blemishes and blackheads with Earth Tone. Our artisan herbal toner was inspired by a 14th-Century herbal skincare formula, the Queen of Hungary’s Water. Earth Tone also may help improve acne, rosacea, razor cuts, bruises, dermatitis, porous facial skin, cracked heels, nail infection, eczema, psoriasis, and cold sores. Earth tone also helps to lock in moisture while allowing your skin to breathe.
Spritz onto the face or apply with a cotton ball. Wait a few minutes for your skin to fully absorb the mist before moving to Step 6. If you have open sores, this might sting a little.
Step 6. Moisturize and protect with Gypsy Cream – Formulated with organic hemp seed oil, shea butter, and aloe vera, Gypsy Cream softens and hydrates + soothes irritations + helps prevent scarring while helping to maintain a proper ph to keep your sebum production in check. Hemp seed oil works at the skin’s deepest layer to supply nutrients, repair damage, and provide future protection. Naturally rich in vitamin A to aid cell turnover and renewal, our signature skincare product offers unique anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, sun protection, and emollient properties. Remember, a little goes a long way, a small amount will offer your face all the protection and moisture it needs.
Hospitals, dermatologists, and aestheticians have found Gypsy Cream effective for easing a variety of skin conditions including psoriasis, eczema, burns, and diaper rash. A little goes a long way. Massage a small amount onto the face (and other areas that need TLC).
Cliff Notes: Every morning + night go through steps #2,#4,#5, #6. Listen to your body, if you feel like you need to skip a step, or use more of a product, then do it! You may feel like #4 gives you enough moisture and #6 might be too much. Feel free to experiment and take breaks. Basically, do what feels right. Hit up steps #1 + #3 every couple of days for the first few weeks until you feel like you are starting to get control and the acne clears up. Then about 1 -2 times a month after that.

Unfortunately, I do not love a couple of the main products. The moisturizer smells like some sort of fuel...gas/kerosine, and too strong to wear. The oil "soap" isn't too bad, but it is difficult to use without any of it going into the hairline and leaving my hear looking unwashed. Plus, it irritates my eyes, even being careful to not let it get into them. Likely cross-contamination from the towel. The mask is fine. I have yet to use the other products due to the effort involved with either steaming or making a concoction with honey.
